2017/01/27   Carrie Anne takes us on a tour of STEAM Village at bett 2017. Sorry for the iffy audio - we often utilise Facebook Live to keep our community up to date from Pi Towers and events we attend. These videos aren’t always the best quality, are often shot in a square format and will sometimes include us replying to onscreen questions from viewers at the time. HOWEVER, they’re great fun to make and we’d hate you to miss out on them. So please let us off for the lack of production value and enjoy the fun we get up to!   2017/01/25   03:32   Hello World is a magazine about computing and digital making written by educators, for educators. With three issues each year, it contains 100 pages filled with news, features, teaching resources, reviews, research and much more. It is designed to be cross-curricular and useful to all kinds of educators, from classroom teachers to librarians. While it includes lots of great examples of how educators are using Raspberry Pi computers in education, it is device- and platform-neutral.   Made In Britain - The Pi Maker - Eben Upton Circuit Cellar
2016/12/14 11:27   You have computers in all different sizes and formats, small, big, slow, fast, you name it. How remarkable it was when a small group of designers launched a small, cheap computer that looked in nothing like a normal computer. The bare green PCB board appealed to makers and hackers and the option to connect a keyboard and screen appealed a completely different group. Give it a try… what computer am I talking about and how long is it on the market? If there is someone who knows, it must be Eben Upton.

Eben Upton - The Raspberry Pi。ヌs Impact on Manufacturing .TTI/Vanguard
2015/12/23   49:37   MAKING STUFF May 56, 2015 Detroit, Michigan Eben Upton, TTI/Vanguard Advisory Board The Raspberry Pi。ヌs Impact on Manufacturing A handful of tools have ignited a hardware revival Arduino, Linux, Python, Make magazine and its fairs, and ever-cheaper 3-D printers, to name a few. Another is the Raspberry Pi, over 5 million of which have now been sold, in just about three years. All 5 million are special, but some are leading very special existences for example, the ones that ended up at a Kids Hacker Camp in Nairobi; the ones that were part of a distributed light control system fitted into a Land Rover Defender that traveled 22,000 km from the UK to South Africa via Russia and the Middle East; the ones that Eric Schmidt and I used to teach a classroom of kids to code, on the occasion of Google donating 15,000 Pis to UK schoolchildren; the ones that are finding their way into computing labs for girls in Afghanistan.

2014/04/04   The Raspberry Pi is a credit card-sized computer board that costs only around 35 euro. The device was created to help young people learn about programming and to fill this growing technological gap. The Pi has been used variously to create an entertainment centre, a Web server, a synthesiser for music, a 3D printer (which can then be used to print Raspberry Pi parts), and more.To learn more about the Raspberry Pi, visit www.raspberrypi.org. Dr.Eben Upton is a Technical Director and ASIC computer chip architect for Broadcom. He is also a founder and former trustee of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, responsible for the overall software and hardware architecture of the raspberry Pi device. Along with his colleagues in Cambridge University, Dr. Upton designed this credit card-sized computer to bring affordable programing and multimedia to children, without the usual high cost of computers. He is passionate about the need for society to create and foster Producers rather than Consumers alone.

Raspberry Pi founder wants to close digital divide . footwashermedia
2012/03/13   The Raspberry Pi personal computer project began 6 years ago at the University of Cambridge in the UK out of a study conducted by Cambridge to discover why incoming students had ever declining programming skills. The study showed that many of the students had no regular access to computers prior to enrolling, a problem that seems to be increasing in families below the poverty level in developed countries. The availability of a fully functioning, low-cost computing system could rapidly close the gap as long as students had the ability to learn how to use them. This interview with foundation executive director Eben Upton, PhD, Computer Sciences at Cambridge, outlines the beginning of the program and where the foundation hopes to go with the technology.

2011/10/19 01:05   The Raspberry Pi is a $25/$35 computer based on a Broadcom ARM chip. The Fedora ARM secondary architecture project has ported the Fedora Linux distribution to ARM-based devices. Faculty and students at Seneca College involved with the Fedora ARM project are configuring and optimizing it to work with the Raspberry Pi.This is a quick peek at Fedora 13 running on an alpha Raspberry Pi board (model "B"). The GUI is LXDE; apps shown include AbiWord and gEdit (with plugins). Fedora 15 ARM and the Raspberry Pi device are both expected to be available in November, 2011.   Raspberry Pi alpha boards are back!
2011/08/12   We've got our sticky hands on the alpha boards. Eben talks a bit about the board, and points out some of the details of the hardware. Wailing background noises are my cat, and the clunking in the closeups are a sign from above that I need a new video camera.

39,000 metres from Cambridge Judge Business SchoolPRO3
Move over, Felix Baumgartner: the Austrian daredevil's skydiving record has been smashed by a bionic teddy bear powered by Cambridge technology. Last August, Babbage Bear soared up to 39,000 metres - over 30 metres higher than Baumgartner's ascent - before plummeting back to Earth. The cuddly toy was controlled by a tiny Raspberry Pi computer, which communicated with ground control and transmitted still and video pictures throughout his mission into the upper atmosphere. The Raspberry Pi is the brainchild of tech entrepreneur Eben Upton, who has sold more than two million of the credit card-sized computers to date. He first worked out how to turn his idea into a business success while on the Executive MBA programme at Cambridge Judge Business School. "The course provided the confidence to look outside the box," he says. "We decided to adopt a licensing strategy, so the now Raspberry Pi Foundation just designs the computer and maintains the brand, and we license those two things to partners. They manufacture it in return for a royalty." Retailing at less than ?25, the Raspberry Pi was intended to be a low-cost means of getting young people interested in programming. But it has found favour with a whole range of hobbyists and enthusiasts, who have used it in everything from electronic music to robotics.

The sky’s the limit: Raspberry Pi goes for Brazil, India and China from Cambridge Judge Business SchoolPRO
05:28 In little more than a year, the tiny, credit card-sized computer that costs about 20 pounds has smashed all expectations, rolling off UK production lines at the rate of one every five seconds and turning up in the most unlikely places including the edge of space. Cambridge Judge Business School alumnus Dr Eben Upton of the Raspberry Pi Foundation feels it is on the way to achieving the aim of rekindling interest in computer science and programming.
